I'm one of the authors of Wing IDE and yes it's a large project,
with well over a decade of long hours of effort in it, and we're
not even that close to what we originally envisioned to provide.

man month" and "herding cats" phenomena are both particularly
relevant for IDEs, which are complex and often require a lot of
agreement about trade-offs and where effort is focused. I have
nothing but respect for anyone that develops an IDE, however
humble it may seem to its users. It's never as simple as it
looks from the outside.

Python users are very diverse. Some would never dream of paying
for an IDE, and others think it's crazy not to. There is a
market but frankly I can think of easier ways to make money, if
that is the primary goal. But I do love working on Wing, so
don't take this as a complaint from me!
